Once you’re ready to build your website or web page you begin to wonder how you will. That’s why in the next article we give you the technologies that will help you build your website …

Each site has an optimal design that perfectly matches their subject matter, requirements and types of visitors. For example, a website that offers e-cards need to attract the attention of the visitor’s eyes, using images, animations and interactivity, while a site dedicated to science, education or research may not need any of them to show information and content. The amount of animation and interactivity without doubt affect the accessibility of the website, as the technologies used to provide such content are usually not supported by user agents or often not designed for people with disabilities. To consider how many people might be leaving behind, I will base my study on the statistics of this site (HTMLQuick.com) which is fully accessible and provides a wealth of textual information. To see some round numbers say that if the site’s content was entirely based on Flash or JavaScript would be losing 1.77% to 4.55% of visits due solely to lack of technologies, which could be a large number of visitors if it is of a successful site. But look at some considerations based on the more popular and problematic technologies. Flash: Flash is a great way to build animations and interactivity, but can also be a big problem of accessibility. Create a website completely in Flash could leave out a 2.78% of visitors and make a completely empty site for search engines, which can represent your first problem. Many sites will see Flash as a staple while others only use it for animation or simply not use it. – If your site does not need, then try to use it only for rich animations or providing alternative texts. – Prevents build Flash menus, a user agent that does not support it can not follow their links. – Export the swf file using the shortest possible version. Only 69.2% of visits supports the latest version. The remaining 29.03% will have to download it before viewing the film. – Try to make the film so young as you can so that people do not get bored waiting for the page is loaded. There is still 11.83% of visitors using dial-up connections. JavaScript: JavaScript has similar disadvantages to Flash. Many user agents support it, including the robots of search engines. A 1.77% of visitors will not see the information written in JavaScript or follow the links. – If possible, use it only for interactivity and functionality is not needed. – If not possible, provide alternative static content tag “noscript”. – Do not make something necessary to follow a link. Use the command “location.href” as the contents of the event “onclick” in a static link (tag “a”). Frames: Frames (frames) may look good but they should definitely be avoided. While most user agents support, search engines, as well as the blind, may be seriously mistaken to try to relate the information contained in the pages of a frames page. Images: The images, although not fully accessible, are a more benevolent alternative to Flash animations. – Always prefer to use images instead of Flash animations. – Keep them small in size to reduce loading time of the page. – Always provide the most appropriate alternative text that describes the purpose of the image. Some general ways to avoid conflicting technologies are opting for more common types of information or more supported. One of the best ways to establish the image of a website is CSS. CSS is specially designed to set presentational attributes. Use it in place of tables to set the diagram on page. However, some sites will need to use some or all of these technologies to show its main contents. For example, an e-card site may need Flash to display animated cards and / or interactive (main content). But when the use of these technologies is not a necessity, to prevent its use to provide primary content will be as good for your visitors as it is for you.

Build a basic Web page is so easy that even today there are Web pages where entering a few data can automatically generate its own Website…

It is for this reason that there are professionals such as designers and programmers who are responsible for making the Internet an attractive tool for the entrepreneur business. For these reasons it is always recommended that when entering the large network, must have the support of a creative design for your Web page and Web positioning essential. The goal of every Webmaster, is that your site listed in search engines out by using keywords that are related to your business and in turn be positioned in the first place for “this” search result.

Then we discuss the semantic CSS: A different approach and tries to give a series of tips or recommendations in the use of style sheets and XHTML code writing …

All information is based on the post above, and related files. Guidelines, and writing code: Using HTML tags strictly for what they have conceived If it manages to create an XHTML code as clean and clear as possible will be reduced considerably the number of styles that will be created and avoid most common errors and inconsistencies. • Models based on layers (div), not using tables (table). • Paragraphs (p) • Headers (h1, h2 … h6) • Tables (table, thead / tr / th, tbody / tr / td) • Lists: (ul / li, ol / li) • Menus: lists based on the attribute display: inline Use of measures in the sizes of the sources The measures are those that do not establish a fixed size in pixels or points to an item. In particular are the percentage (%) and em (1em equals 100%, 120 %…, 0.7em 1.2em 70%, …) This point is very important in several respects: • Not all people have the monitor at the same resolution and our typeface can be very small or large as appropriate. • Setting the font so far on in the body tag, take the relative size of the browser and device to interpret the page. This is especially on devices with small screens (mobile, pda, etc.).. Layout based fixed layout layers This is an old controversy, the model of fixed size width or formatted liquid or of varying size. Web usability studies advise the use of fixed sizes appropriate to the resolution used by most Internet users, trying to make the discrimination is the lowest rate possible. The explanation of this aspect is justified by the continuing growth in sales of large monitors (17 “or larger) and resolution (1024×768 and above). The expansion of the pages on all resolutions of widescreen monitors greatly complicates the readability of text paragraphs. Create or redefine styles only if strictly necessary: If we create our pages by making appropriate use of XHTML tags and follow the guidelines described in this document will drastically reduce the need to create unnecessary and redundant style, which has enormous benefits for all related to the ease of maintenance and reduction errors and strange behavior.

The scope and expectations of a web project are often based on optical Exclusively Client. The objectives of the client does not absolve us of our commitment to the success of the site, then talk to the clients of web designers …

The customer is always right, but … Which one? It is a fact that, with rare exceptions, web designers do not work for ourselves but for others. Is expected to design and develop a product that meets a set of business requirements that should be exhaustively specified in a working paper discussed and approved by both parties and often reflected in a formal contract. We all know they are very frequent occasions when the definition of goals is more informal, which will inevitably bring problems when to terminate a project. The consequence of poor specification of objectives is often an endless series of modifications, forward and backward extending deadlines catastrophically without the budget agreed at the beginning is modified. Go as a first recommendation for explicitly documenting the objectives and scope of the project, even in a simple list agreed and signed. We could assume that developing such a list of objectives is a moderately easy job. Just ask the customer what they want and verify that everything that calls can be carried out within budget. Unfortunately, it is not so simple. An important part of our participation is that, within certain limits, to ensure the success of the project and this is not always possible to abide by only the customer’s requirements. It is essential to take into account the inevitable second client: the public. Although a client can request a design change on your site to get more space for advertising (and thus increase the revenue of the company), this requirement may adversely affect users trying to locate a particular article or information hidden in a tangle of ads. Although the change of design can achieve business goals, users of the site is considered a failure. Obviously, if users stop visiting the site later or earlier than the standard advertising will also fall and failure will be complete. It must be our responsibility as designers make these points clear before making the target list. When business needs and those of users are antagonistic will maintain a delicate balance between the two points of view, but the customer will ultimately prevail. To cope better with these two opposing forces should analyze and understand a little better in each: Customer goals It is very usual that customers do not belong to our own sector. Beyond that come the service sector, industrial or question of an independent professional who wants to establish your online presence, often do not have experience with web design. After all, why use our services. And this ignorance is mutual, we know so little about the industries of our customers like them in our work. It is therefore important that both sides are known. In compiling the project objectives should know as much as possible about the client and the context in which it operates its business. No question is too basic. We need information on sales, their market strategy and its competitors. Collecting this information we explain our work as clearly as possible. We will show the customer that will look the project, from start to finish. In this way we demystify the customer life cycle of the project and contribute to understand the sequence of events that can achieve success. The public needs Perhaps the main reason for not taking into account the needs of users lies in what appears to be difficult to find out. One might ask how to increase the usability of a site without knowing any of the users. For the virtual nature of our environment, our users tend to be invisible, faceless groups of visitors. A useful strategy is to create “user profiles” fictitious. User profiles are models that help us understand the needs, behavior and goals of users. The goal is to humanize the design process and improve site quality and user satisfaction. In this context it is particularly important to consider those groups of users that have some degree of temporary disability or chronic (see web design and accessibility) and taken into account when planning the site design to ensure its accessibility from a wide range of unconventional devices. There are various forms or sources of data to build profiles. The first approach (and simplest) is to use the analysis of server logs from the site. This source generates significant demographic and technical data that will let you know what type of browsers used by the public and from which operating system. As each browser is suffering its own problems of CSS and representation, that information will be key. Also valuable geographic information could be obtained to know what part of the world come from the visitors, allowing the site to think in terms of languages and cultures. A second option is to appeal to the client that hired us for us to describe in words the kind of public they aim their products or services. Finally, the choice is complex but more direct contact with potential users to make real. Discussions with real people will “condense” fictitious profiles to represent them in habits, histories and needs. If we understand both our clients can begin to assess the second key aspect of the site: the content and how users should use.

Get the files to update The first step would be to have the files from the Web page you want to update on our work computer. Generally we will have to edit a text or a picture, so this first step is to get the files to the page code, extension. Html, or photographs, to be in GIF files (. Gif) or JPEG (. Jpg) . Reference: We talk more about HTML files and JPG or GIF in articles: – How is a site inside – What is HTML – Graphic formats for Web pages It may be that the page we have scheduled ourselves or another person. In the first case may already have these files on your computer, otherwise, or if it was another person who had developed the site to update, we connect via FTP to Web server to get files. To connect via FTP to the server of the page will need the address of that server, something like ftp.tudominio.com. Also need data and password with permission to access the FTP. This data must be obtained, if we have not already, pidiéndoselos space provider or the person who has contracted. To connect to the server we set up an FTP program with that data. Some possibilities for FTP programs are Cute FTP, FTP Voyager FTP or ACE. Reference: We talk more about access to in Article Top FTP files to the server. Once inside we download FTP files to our local computer and FTP program that will present our two areas, one with our computer files with other local and remote server. Dragging files from remote server to local server area we can use the file transfer. It is best to download the files in a directory on your computer made out for include the pages to update. Edit message Once we have the files you want to edit on your computer can start the renovation work itself. To work is important to have some knowledge on the Web page editing or graphic design. If we update a text on the page we edit the HTML files and therefore we simply use a text editor program simple as Notepad. Anyway, there are many HTML editing programs that greatly simplify our work, with ability to edit the code and message text directly or with the help of design WYGIWYS. Reference: HTML editors talk more and different article types in HTML editors. If we want to update a chart, we have a graphic editing tool, among which we highlight PhotoShop or Paint Shop Pro The process, whether editing a chart both as a text, will be the same. Basically we open the file where the information is edited, updated and saved the changes. Upload files to the server again For updates, valid and visible to all visitors to our sites, we must put the files you’ve edited on the server. You just need to reconnect to the FTP server and upload the files, by a process similar to that made by downloading the files, but in the opposite direction, ie, this time dragging the files from our local computer to the remote server. Is sufficient to upload the files you’ve updated. Those who’ve played are, in theory, the same as the server, so it is immaterial whether the re-positioned, because we would not be changing anything. Check for updates It is the work done, so just be lacking access to our Web page with your browser in your web address and verify that changes have been satisfactorily completed. Note: If you do not see the changes made to the page is probably because we are receiving data from the cache of your browser. To skip this cache and get the files directly to the server can use the Control key (CTRL). With the button pressed, click on the link to the page you wish to obtain from the server without going through the cache. We can also refresh the page, avoiding the cache, with the CTRL key pressed and pressing the button on the toolbar of your browser or the corresponding hotkey (F5 in Internet Explorer).

There are many factors affecting the usability of a Web site. One of them is the sources reading. Read on and find out what can be done by the sources to attract users…

To make significant sites for users, site owners must use attractive design and functional content. The use of sources is one factor that can attract or alienate visitors to a Web site. Good fonts are important because it has an effect on how fast users can read all content that is present on your computer screen. Sources are used to make most Web page elements such as navigation bars, buttons, links, and menus. This is the text that expresses the majority of Web site content. At present, the sources that are commonly used on the Internet are Times New Roman, serif type, and Arial, a sans serif. The leading edge of serif is that it is easier to read on paper, since the serifs help individualize each letter. However, this advantage can be rendered useless when the fonts look on the computer screens, since factors such as screen resolution can affect the clarity of the texts. So how sources influence usability and overall legibility of a Web site? There are two main categories of font faces: 1. Serif These are sources that contain small appendages at the top and bottom of a letter. Examples are Times New Roman, Century, Bookman and Courier. These are to be worn when the page is large amounts of text. 2. Sans-serif these fonts have only primary line strokes, and have a simpler form. Examples of these fonts are Futura, Helvetica, and Arial. They are usually used for short phrases. Font style refers to the use of elements such as italics, underline, bold to give better attention to the contents of a page. Not recommended for use on Web pages underlined, since most users are accustomed to associate the underlined links. Bold should be used strategically. Also great use of bold type can be a distraction for the contents, since they are very visible. Emphasis is not very legible on screen, should be used infrequently, only for emphasis and definitions. Avoid using absolute font sizes. Doing so may hinder users the ability to adjust the text size to go along with details of display devices they are using. It is recommended that users can manipulate the size of the text, especially if you plan to maintain Web pages with little content. Choosing font colors should be done carefully, it should maximize the readability of text in contrast to the bottom of the page while it apart from the colors used for links. For light backgrounds, you must use fonts in black, dark blue, green, dark brown. If the background is dark, sources in orange white, pale green, should be used. If possible, use only one or two colors on a page, excluding the colors of the pages link. There are images that look like fonts. Avoid using them. There are several reasons why it should not be used. Jpg or GIF images to acquire special effects. First, the images take a long time to download, and when it appears, the quality is not the same as that of a text prepared by the browsers. Secondly, there is usually a problem when resizing images. It is said that Sans Serif fonts should be used for the standard and top-of-the website design online, specifically the Arial and Verdana. It is recommended to use the same source through a page, but the sizes of users can be added and the subtitles can be written as strong to prevent monotony. Again, it is preferable to give users the ability to control the size of the text, as some users may have some visual problems. Some studies show that the sources are smaller than 10 points will slow the reaction of users. It is advisable to use sources of at least 12 or 14 points in size when it comes to people over 65 years of age.
