If we are allowed to use the colloquialism, “Do not leave for ugly, but rather by poor” seem to be the most appropriate sentence to understand the main reason that people who surf the Internet or not leaving the pages visit Web.
Abandon a site because of a bad graphic design is not within the main reasons why people decide to switch from one site to another, according to surveys conducted in the United States in recent years. This is important to know that we are devoting much attention to the graphic design aspects of the site and neglecting factors more important as the content, ease of navigation and access times of Web pages.
The reason behind this natural tendency to focus our attention on graphic design, is that we are still accustomed to traditional advertising in newspapers, magazines and promotional brochures. However, these design techniques are not directly inherited to the Web, where content and functionality must be above the graphic design.
This is not to say that your website can not be aesthetic, but rather that you should worry at first instance to meet the needs of content and functionality, and if the human and financial resources permit, dedicate time to optimize the graphic design .
