Before you do any type of traffic generation, did you know that there's something you need to do first -- before you start trying to get ANY traffic -- that will multiply the effectiveness of everything else you do? First, you should understand something...It's a subtle difference in traffic that some people overlook, but is really very important. So let me ask you this question...
What's the purpose of getting a link from another site pointing back to your site?
There are two. The first is the obvious one, and it's so that some person on that other site follows the link to your site.
Boom. Instant traffic.
Do you know what the second reason is?
It's for the Search Engines.
Google, Yahoo, MSN and the other Search Engines calculate their search engine rankings based on a whole bunch of factors, but one of the most important search engine factors is how many incoming links point to your website from other relevant websites.
So a link to your gardening website is extremely valuable if it comes from other gardening websites, stores, blogs, and reference sites. A link to your gardening site coming from auto repair site isn't nearly as valuable.
So part of your Traffic job is to get links that PEOPLE follow, and part is to get links to your site that SEARCH ENGINES follow. They can be the same link, but it's helpful to know both reasons to have links, and why they are different.
QUESTION: So what is the thing you need to do BEFORE you get all those inbound links?
ANSWER: You need to get your website ready for the search engines. It's what the search engine experts call "Internal" or "On-Page" SEO (SEO means "Search Engine Optimization"). It's the work you do on your website that makes it very easy for the search engines to figure out what your page is all about.
And once they figure out what your page is about, they'll start ranking it higher for those search terms.
